Was there any in your part of Maine, Gareth?

About 4 to 6 inches here and a dusting in Portland, I was on the leading edge again (or is it the trailing edge)

Not bad. They made all kinds of dire predictions for us and we didn't get enough snow to track a cat.

Twenty four to thirty in my driveway on Long Island. The driveway only goes to the telephone pole in the picture, so it wasn't too much trouble to shovel.

How did the bow shed hold up?

How did the bow shed hold up?

Remarkably well, considering the utter lack of concern shown by its owner. He deserves to have it looking like the skeleton of the Hindenburg poking out of a snowbank. A younger version of myself would have been outside hourly, all through the night, plying a pushbroom duct-taped to stick, bring down the accumulation. However, seeing the steel frame shrug off storm after storm has led to a sense of invulnerability on my part. That, coupled with my not paying attention to the reports, nearly led to disaster.

The snow slipped off the lower reaches of the shed. The top accumulated a two foot thick hat that bowed under the weight to a remarkable degree. Removing the load caused the bows to spring back to nearly their original configuration.

The worst problem in the short term is that the plastic got pulled loose on one of the end walls, letting some snow inside. Unfortunately, the plastic shrinks in the cold and can't be pulled back far enough to re-attach. The temporary solution might be a plastic tarp patch for the rest of the winter, followed by plastic replacement next spring. The plastic is very old and has held up remarkably well.

snowblower....

Just upgraded from the 5hp to the 8.5 hp this past summer and when we got our first blast of 15" I sure enjoyed it's increase power as I can darn near throw it into my NEIGHBOR'S drive now. We are supposed to get hit with another 15 -20" or so AFTER the freezing rain for 1 day...should be fun for Christmas.

Hope you all get dug out and are doing well.

Merry Christmas to all!!

On the bright side, now you can have a White Christmas!!

Well, they are forecasting rain for Christmas Day. I heard one forecaster say not white but grey.

That chart looks right. Wish I knew how to post pix. Though down at the dock the snow blows off so Marmalade looked more dramatic in the height of the storm, that rotrousse bow facing the icy blast and prayer flags fraying. I'm writing from my parents' farm in Bridgewater Connecticut where they got a little snow but we'll have to wait till the Christmas eve storm to have even a chance of ski jouring behind the horses. If we manage that, I'll try to get some pix and Emily can show me how to post.

I deleted the first "snowfall" chart and replaced it with "snow cover" link below because the NWS web site link is updated every 24 hours. Will be interesting to view south coast snow melt vs. the north country over the next few weeks.

14" or so here in North Falmouth. I spent at least 4 hours yesterday digging out the car - not all at once, however. It's still cold out, too. Very nice.

Supposed to stay below freezing until the 24th, then go up into the 40s. So a white christmas is probably likely to be more like a slushy, dirty, grey christmas. Rain on Boxing Day, too.

And the town was smart and didn't plow the bike path.

Ian, upload your pix to your Facebook page. Then, navigate to the biggest size one in the Photo Album and hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on the photo itself. Then select Copy Image Address from the drop-down menu.

Then come back to your posting to the forum and click on the little yellow box above the message area and hit the Cmd key (with the four-leaf clover icon on it) and V at the same time. The address will appear in the box and in your message to the forum.

We'll see the photo as it appears in Facebook.

Looks like we are having a green Xmas. No snow on the ground and clear skies forcast for the next few days.

Meanwhile it was 5°C in Iqaluit the other day, and everything melted. To say that's atypical for December is an understatement.

25" on the North Shore of Long Island, NY. The steel canopy over one gas station collapsed. No one hurt, station was closed because of storm. Just got my snowblower back from it's annual tune-up the other day. I'd be dead from a heart attack if not for that thing! Ended up helping out half the neighborhood, though.
