View Full Version : A Perfect Evening Sail

I just had a perfect evening sailing on Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne Aust. with my newly met forum friends from Amherst Island, Ontario. It's funny how wooden boat people are pretty much the same no matter where they are from. I think it comes from just loving the boats and not what having a boat does for their image. Kind of sets you apart from most of the other boat owners (not all).
Anyway, great company, 15 steady knots, <1ft swell and 30+degC on the water is very hard to beat. Throw in a graceful 44'LWL 1929 built yacht with a great skipper and it's about perfect.
I hope some of the photos end up on here. Sheila?
photos? We're eagerly awaiting!

I sailed yesterday too. Mid-day, because it's dark at 4:30. It was "warm" here too, about 48f (9c). Cloudy, gentle to moderate breeze, alone on my 39' ketch. We close reached out near the middle of LI Sound, the same back. Sailed into the harbor (hard to do in summer traffic). Struck and furled everything under sail and motored to the dock.

You will probably have to wait until Amherst Island gets back home, I didn't take the photos myself. I might put up a teaser of the boat to start things off...

I'm glad you put warm in inverted commas because to me that's not much above freezing.:D

Not my boat but I do get to sail on her quite often, in fact she rarely goes out without me. I don't think I could afford her and a wife and it could be a sticky situation if I had to choose.;) Oh and I agree on the 9deg.

Well it was 9f here today. That's minus 13c. It was a little chilly working outside today but I had my flannel lined jeans on. :) That aluminum drywall square just sucked the heat out of your hands, though. Best handled with gloves at these temps.
What a beautiful boat. Hoping to see the sailing pics.

Yes, she's a beauty, thanks for the pics.
You don't expect me to give up sailing just because it's winter, do you?
