His neck injury caused severe impairment of all four limbs, just not 100% total to all. Since he needs assistance to even get up, I surmise (didn't read this) that he might have some limited use of upper limbs, perhaps a bit of hand and finger motion.
A friend from Oregon who survived the primitive treatments for polio available in the '30's had only massivly developed neck muscles and limited squeeze ability in one hand but he was able to design gear to drive a car and fly an airplane.
People who do things like this are the finest of our species.
I think he is a lot tougher than I.

Everything is getting much more challenging now. Yesterday the motion was so bad, I could barely keep myself upright in my wheelchair
I'm not sure how I feel about this attempt, but it certainly demonstrates something about the human spirit. I wish him well. Wow.
