Would anyone recommend a historic boat ride they took on the east coast or Great Lakes. I'm thinking of taking my family for a ride on big historic sailboat sometime next summer. My kids would love it.

Well, when I was 7, a neighbor revealed the finer points of sailing to my on Lake Ontario on a 73-foot single masted thing with no life rails and a tiller. Twelve Meter. Or Metre.
Anyway, this thrill-a-second has stuck with me for 53 years. You can arrange to ride these Girls. Google twelve metre and opportunities on the northeastern U S coast, especially, will pop up.

I highly recommend sailing aboard the East Wind. It's been nearly ten years since my (now) wife and I were introduced to sailing aboard her, and I credit this fine vessel and her captain&mate/ builders for putting my gal in a receptive mood toward all of my ensuing wooden boat shenanigans.
A google search shows them still sailing out of Boothbay, ME. She's not exactly historical (as in old, or replica) but she is very traditional and elegantly spartan.
