Very nice indeed! But why is no one singing? I always used to sing or at least whistle a happy melody during those easy times when you can lay back, take a sip and enjoy the ride.

Thanks for the nice clip!!Any more pictures or details of that handsome looking boat? Your build?

Cheers!

Glad you enjoyed the ride...were I to sing you would be less than impressed, I fear.

I have lots of pics of the build and I was thinking of starting a thread "just fore the fun of it":D but I dunno...

Okay, skip the singing, but definitely more pics.
A thread dedicated to the build would be great, that looks like a lovely boat. (what little of it that could be seen in the clip)

I'd say go for it but call it "just for the fun of it" :D Besides how else will anyone be encouraged to build and have some fun with wood while doing it you don't start a thread?
Practice up your whistling if you doubt your singing :)

Oh,just noticed your post with a very intersting picture/painting. Is that you taking a nap while dreaming of distant shores? Cool!!

Cheers!

...well, lemme ask her...

She wants to know if you'll still respect her when you find out she's strip-planked...http://i902.photobucket.com/albums/ac223/RDM_bucket/f4a7acae-1.jpg?t=1259977453

How can you not both like and respect such a shapely lady, even if she is a stripper! :D

You've gotta start a thread about her up in the building section!

Cheers!

Please, post a building thread--that'd be great! We've been in touch a while back; I'm the guy building an Alaska in Wisconsin, and I'd love to see more about how you did it. Your building photos on Don's website have been a huge help.

I love the video you posted, too--the boat looks fast! I built the backbone, transom, and some smaller parts this summer, I'll soon be taking over the living room to glue up spars this winter, and as soon as it warms up again I'll be back in the shop planking (April, I hope). Anything you are willing to share here about building and sailing your boat would be most groovy.

Later,

Tom

Hi Tom - glad you took the plunge. Not sure about the building thread yet but I'm thinking about it.

[re-reading this..."I'll soon be taking over the living room to glue up spars this winter"...maybe not a great idea?]

Peter - I think she's warming up to you...she wanted you to see her wings:D

My wife says you sound like a smart guy... But I'm just gluing up the (solid) blanks in the heated house; I'll do the cutting and sanding in the cold, cold shop (9 degrees Fahrenheit today). I think it won't be too traumatic.

How long did it take you to build your boat, if you don't mind me asking? And how many Alaskas do you know of? I know about yours, Alex Zimmerman's lapstrake version, and Gary's boat and Least Tern from Don's website. Am I working on hull #5?

...your wife is obviously a very intelligent person:)

About the building time for my boat...about four years working part-time evenings and weekends, but you must understand I was in no hurry, really, and was thoroughly enjoying every minute in the shop. I could wax on about the deep metaphysical unfolding that occurred during her construction but I'll save that for another time.

There is one more Alaska that I know of...a fellow in northern Ontario...he just launched his this past summer.

Hi guys…..3 more confirmed built: Sutton, Alaska; Port Orchard, Washington; Takoma Park, Maryland. There are another 6 or 7 that I know of that are currently under construction, including yours Tom. There are probably others I have not yet heard from. Maybe some are even lurking on the forum and will chime in.

Thanks for an interesting thread Rod. Love those images and videos!

Hey Don - never thought I'd be showing them to anyone else...kind of like home movies of your kids in a way.

...now, back to happiness...

Happiness is...being master of your own domain (even if it is just for the weekend)

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question, but I haven't found the answer elsewhere--I have a "Happiness is..." photo to post, but I am helpless to figure out how. Anyone know of a good thread that explains this? Can anyone help me out--I really know nothing, and the directions in the forum FAQ don't seem to work.

The photo I'm trying to post is on photobucket, but when I paste the URL into the attachment box, it says "invalid file". I have no idea to proceed. Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is too much of a side track.

For me it's hit and miss still but this is what works sometimes: Choose the image in photobucket you want to post. Double-click on it to make it bigger. Right mouse to see properties. In the box that appears you'll see a URL address. Copy it.

Come to the thread you want to post in and click Reply. The window that opens has a little mountain icon. Click on it. Temporarily allow the scripted windows. Paste the URL you copied from the properties window.

...like I said, sometimes it works.

Darroch--

thanks for the explanation; that's pretty easy. So here's another possible version of happiness:

Happiness is... possible even without wind (my brother lounging around in light airs)

True happiness is not attained through self-gratification, but through fidelity to a worthy purpose. You will never be happier than you expect. To change your happiness, change your expectation.Hope is itself a species of happiness, and, perhaps, the chief happiness which this world affords.Thank you very much and Stay connected with me.
