I wonder what the outcome of this will be.

Having chosen to sail through the Gulf of Aden (sometimes referred to as "Pirate Alley") in 2007, they went with a flotilla of other boats for safety. For this latest passage, however, they sailed alone.

Pirates demand 7 million dollars for the release of British couple. Pirates phone BBC to demand ransom for Rachel and Paul Chandler (http://woodenboat.com/yacht-pirates-7055#comment-7361)

Unconfirmed reports that the pirates have moved Rachel and Paul Chandler further inland in Somalia. Pirates now believed to be holding the British couple hostage while Islamist militants threaten to take couple by force from pirates. Reports of fighting among the two groups is a major concern, as Islamist militants in the area are not focused mainly on attaining ransom money.

If the US finds the boat, and they use a satellite or PAV and find the pirates, they can send in a team. I think think it is time to start fighting back.

As long as the oil deliveries are not in danger the big boys couldnīt care less what is happening somewhere behind Africa.:mad:

Must we understand that the couple is kept by the pirates since 2007??:eek:
About the fight between the "regular" pirates and the islamists, may be the military survey of the zone makes harder to hijack boats and makes them lacking "clients"....Should be nice to change them in "auto-cleaning pest"...as far as the hostages aren't threatened...

Was it a U.S. flagged craft?

British flagged. I wonder what makes the pirate think that they can get 7 million dollars for a couple of retiree's.

The US and British should do more pirate hunting. Maybe we send old Ironsides back over there to do it's thing.
