really just that simple. I can imagine a number of ways how Robb did this BUT, does anyone know HOW he did it???
Thanks!

I read about the transmission (said to be like the rototiller transmissions) and engine arrangement, but have never heard about a "quick release prop". Why would one want to release it?

Some how Mr. White made a "push button propeller nut so I can instantly change propellers to suit the conditions." WB 189 pg 49 paragraph 3- (almost sounds like quoting law)
Thanks ahead...

also refered to as a "jackleg push-button prop nut" in his Messing About in Boats article http://www.messingaboutinboats.com/archives/mbissueaugust02.html
Again Thanks!

From the way I have read his descriptions, I imagine it to be something like an industrial air or hydraulic hose coupling with splines or a keyway.

Breakaway - you'll need to put that screenshot up on the Internet for others to see it -- and change it from .png to .jpg in iPhoto or whatever your Mac uses to modify images. Remember we can only see files in locations that begin in with "http://"

Not a proper way to secure a propeller to a shaft (Morton Machine link above)! Much less strength than a standard nut (to say nothing of the locknut and cotter key)

How about the sort of nut used to hold a race car steering wheel to the shaft? I'm sure they're massively over engineered as it'd be rather catastrophic if it failed.

Yeah...the second link was my attempt to post a picture of that Morton push-button nut. The first link gets the job done.

I dont dissagree. Its the only pushbutton nut I'm aware of and it seemed to answer the question. Mr. White "probl'y jack-legged it somehow to make it work-servicably good 'nuff."

OconnePirate actully seemed to have it somewhat right as the "Messing" article by White says:
"I have the jackleg push-button prop nut and can change wheels by just reaching up under there with one hand. As an aside, that's a wonderful fig. I can take the propeller off a sailboat while she is luffed up in the mouth of the river. I wish I could lay claim to the invention, but it ain't nothing but something like a quick-disconnect like on a garden hose."
So Who invented the thing?? and who sells/makes it?? I know guys like White only seem to come around every so often but I'll be damned if it isn't a shame when all that knowledge disappers!

Doesn't one of Mr White's family frequent this list from time to time? Perhaps he would know what it was.
