I was trying to enter Raid Finland in my White Guide canoe rigged with twin lug sails but am led to believe that canoes and kayaks are not allowed.

So now I need to build a boat that I can enter by July 26th. I will have to car top it from UK to Finland so a max weight of 150lbs and I have a lot of 20ft cedar strip that needs to be used, but the quality is not great so am happy to butt join it to go over 20ft.
Sounds like my White Guide.
I would be grateful for suggestions that will allow me not to sail in a wet suit for a week.I gather that camping at night is the order of the day so a pure day boat is required but a dry one, not for Finland where I belive its 3-4 SW but UK.
Thanks

General rules.
Boats must be monohulls with light draught. Fixed keels must not exceed 80cms
Overall length 4.5 - 8 metres
Minimum 8sq Meters of sail.
Boats normally handled by sails and/or oars.
Boats should be transportable on trailers or roof racks.
Masts should be stepped in such a way as to permit crossing under bridges.

Don, sounds like you need an Elver. Go to www.sredmond.com (http://www.sredmond.com)
There are seveal current threads about Steve's designs. He is a new forum member and has a nice website. The Elver is strip built over a flat plywood bottom. 20' long, sounds just right. I'm so jealous - will you take pictures and post them for all of us on the wrong side of the pond?

Let us know what you decide.

Steven

Elver is much heavier than 150 lbs!

A fast and cheap solution could be a plywood sharpie. I'm building Jacques Mertens's CK17:

but you might consider other designs, like Bolger's "instant boat" sharpies or also the beautiful sharpie series drawn by Reuel Parker.

There's an outfit in Canada that sells a kit to build Iain Oughtred's Elf. I wonder what shipping would be? I think she'd be cartoppable.
I know he said cartoppable up above but in his specs it says 'transportable on trailers'
