My name is Chris, I have been living in Charleston, SC for a year now. I moved from New England to try something a little different. I am a Merchant Mariner, working in the Gulf of Mexico on supply vessels with a love for wooden boats! I would like to get into the trade a bit and help someone build/restore a wooden boat. I just want to gain some experience and learn along the way, anyone need help?

Thanks

Welcome to the Wooden Boat Forum.

There's the Spirit of South Carolina - apparently completed now. In 2005 I was in Charleston and saw that the frames were up but not yet planked.

I'm sure there's always maintenance going on that you may be able to help with or they know someone there with boat projects. Good luck.

Check in with Mark Bain of Sea Island Boat Works (office on Isle of Palms). He was the head shipwright on the Spirit of South Carolina and has a long list of impressive projects.

There's a member who is building a Joel White Sloop somewhere in Chas. He posted something recently about turning the hull.
