My friend Ernst Cancrinus in Holland sends me notes all the time to help him advertise his brokerage of used Dragons. Ernst is unusual in that he features the older and more reasonably priced boats that you will normally find only on your yacht club bulletin board pinned with a stick pin.

He just added what looks to be a real sweetheart of a 1968 model Borresen. Take a look at the photos at www.draken.nl/assortiment.html and see for yourself. The price translates out to about $25K US and I don't know how much shipping would be, but Ernst tells me that it's very reasonable these days and he can help arrange all.

Another reason to check out Ernst's site is that he can act as an agent for anyone interested in a Dragon, period. Right now there is a shortage of good hulls available in North America out of either wood or glassfibre. Ernst can help locate, purchase, and ship a boat from western Europe to North America at a reasonable price.

(fyi: of course I don't get anything out of this except the hope of more boats on the line somewhere in the US or Canada).

That's a nice looking Dragon.

I kind of like this one (http://www.draken.nl/assortiment.html#sloep), though it's not a Dragon:

[SIZE=2][COLOR=#333333]Bouwjaar: 1921, tabasco mahonie, afmetingen: 9.10 x 1.90 m, motor: Albin 411 - 42 PK - 4 cylinder, een prachtige vroege Petterson, zeer bijzonder met separate kuip.

Translated that sez (or at least, google thinks it sez) something like:
Year: 1921, Tabasco mahogany, dimensions: 9.10 x 1.90 m, Engine: Albin 411-42 PK - 4 cylinder, a beautiful early Petterson, very special with separate tub.
Price: depending on the restoration stage

Ernst just had a very nice A&R hull that he sold for a bit less than what that Borresen is listed at. Anyone interested in Dragons, add him to your favourites page and check back often. He gets a lot of traffic.

fyi: if you'd be interested in a nice glassfibre hull at a good price, that red boat (the Wilson) has been listed for a couple of years now. They'd probably listen to an offer :).

There have been fleets on the Great Lakes for a long, long time, but as far as I know any real racing on the east coast died right around 1972 when the Soling took our spot in the Olympics. That being said, we have the makings of some racing if we can get everyone together, with probably 8-10 boats located int he northeast from Long Island Sound up to New England.

The problem is that the type of Dragons that we've got range from antique woodies with older rigs to cold moulded racing machines, so the racing would be be rather spread out. Of course, you make that fun by dividing the fleet into classes while keeping everyone on the same courses and in the same starts.

I'd love to drag my boat up to the northeast some time. I have trailed her to Lake Erie six times in the last few years, but didn't get to go this year. The boat that was exhibited at Mystic three years ago (and won best restoration) is still for sale up there. It'd make a nice boat for someone.
