hi
I found an interesting homepage for small boat plans: www.emubo.com (http://www.emubo.com)
Has anyone experience with these plans, or build one design?

Should you wish to build the canoe just for one long trip directly at your holiday destination, and have already prepared rig, sail, centreboard, and all bits and pieces at home, as well as lined out the sketch onto wood, the Ephemera can be built in only one day.
I love it. Get to your destination, then build your boat. Must be a very short learning curve.

I'm just a bit skeptical of any boat you can build in one day. Especially one for an extended cruise that I may be trusting my life to. From what I can see from the few line drawings and photos, the designs look like crude versions of Jim Michilak's or some of Phil Bolger's designs. Since the Michilak and Bolger designs are typically well proven, I would look at one of those designs first.

Hello Don, Hello Alex
This summer we made a trip in southern Norway, with ply-plates on the car roof and plans purchased from emubo. In fact, it was 1 1/2 days work at home preparing and one day work on the beach. My wife and I had 3 weeks fun travelling about 140 nm along the coast. We sold the boat afterwards in the last harbour.
Hey, and there are pictures on the side, too.

can't help you with building experience, but I took a look at the homepage. I think this guy has fun, the plans are not expensive so why not just try to build one?
I'm not an expert on boat design, but besides "box" shapes (that's why you mentioned P. Bolger?) these boats go in a different direction.

alexdavies,
In sommer 2000 we ordered a custom designed canoe from emubo. It was designed to carry 3 children, and they built it themselves (8-12 years old) and w built 6 canoes in one weekend. We took the rigg from the optimisits we have in our sailclub. Of course adults had to help a little with glueing, but I can tell you - it really works.
I think the design is called "tremolo" know and is still avaliable - try this one
built the "ephemera" boat to sail in Italy during my holidays - got fir it!

As the designer of emubo -boats I want to post some comments:
- "building time" is a very vague term. In fact, it is the time used for the whole process of building a boat. That means search for plans, buying plans, study them, search for materials, building and launching. If all that is done, you will need to repair the boat in some years, too.
- If the boat should be suitable for amateur building, every part of that process should be for amateurs. And I believe, that's what I did with emubo.
- Boats designed this way, will be extraordinary cheap (in building and mantainance) - but this is just a side-effect.
