While I was recently travelling in the USA I bought a small RCA audio recorder. I interviewed a number of the people I met.
I didn't interview everyone. Sometimes it seemed a bit intrusive, but I do have interviews with a number of interesting people who are not "names" (though they might have some notoriety on the net!).
Also I do manage a couple of interviews with interesting and pivotal people and places like Chuck Lienweber, Clinton Chase and a walking tour of the storage facility of the Columbia River Museum at Astoria with the head curator and the Exec Director (that coup was organised by the Coots).
Anyway, the first one is up - with Thorne (aka David Luckhardt) who is one of the Coots - the group of woodenboat people in the NE of the USA.

USA Interview 1 – Sailing with Thorne, Pirates, black powder and wooden boats
An interview while sailing by Michael Storer
Thorne (aka David Luckhardt) is well known in both wooden boating and historical recreation circles (particularly those involving gunpowder) – I had the opportunity to interview him about his boat (which turned out to have been built by Simon Watts) and about being a pirate (or as it turned out, a pirate hunter).
I will add more as I go.

Fun stuff!
"A rudder is a moveable feast".
I'll steal that.

Howdy Hwyl,
The art of moving the lips and saying nothing (I think think it was me wot said it)

We sound pretty distracted, mostly due to sailing around during the interview.
Yup, Mik said that about rudders as I was bending his ear on what to do about mine...
As for the black powder stuff, here's a photo of us entering the VYC and engaging the clubhouse in a bit of a battle...

In this boat -

I chose not to listen to the black powder stuff, not my cup of tea (especially with saltpeter). Looking forward to more interviews, of course Mik missed out on my hypotheses.
Thorne try building a rudder with a bulging elliptical trailing edge.

Lots of fun... looking forward to the other interviews.
Finally Thorne! Ive been after you to put a solid rudder on the Chamberlain since the Yahoo dory boat days.
You have a beautifull historic design in the William Chamberlain 1880's skiff, looks to be well built and she should get appropriate rig and rudder to match, with the added advantage it will be much more...
Historically correct!

Let's not sidetrack Mik's thread with my rudder issues, but I am certainly considering building one per the Mystic CDS plans...we shall see.

Not an interview ... but might be interesting!
Howdy,
The first podcast of my US talk on boat design and building is up on the net. It is part 1 of three.
Michael Storer's US talks on wooden boat building and design - Part 1 (http://www.storerboatplans.com/wp/?cat=240)
This page also has links to my interviews with furled sails a year or so ago.
You will notice that under the title of the PAGE there has been a drop down menu implemented that allows you to browse the main subject areas of the posts. Very convenient.
The talk has been edited, so it can be a little bit choppy - I am an amateur at this! But if there is anything you have trouble understanding I can add a sketch or diagram to the article if needed. Just leave a comment on the site.
As most of you know the tour was sponsored and organised by the PDRacer community, Duckworks, and the broader Messabout community - I thank them again!
Hope you enjoy it!

The third talk on boat design and building is up.
It proposes a reason why Australian designers such as Iain Oughtred, B and B and me might have a different attitude that makes our boats different from Northern hemisphere designers.

Podcast, Chuck of Duckworks about a new Boat Festival and new ideas for the Texas 200 (http://www.storerboatplans.com/wp/?p=614)
Podcast page is here (http://www.storerboatplans.com/wp/?cat=240)

I was sitting in Chuck’s car as we were driving to the Lake Conroe Messabout. I knew that he had some plans for the Texas 200 event – to extend the concept and starting a new small boat festival on the Texas coast in a couple of years.
This is a podcast of that interview.
