Is it possible to thread aluminium rod to take a nut and washer and subject it to loads similar to that of steel or brass and copper etc?
I don't think I have seen it used as such but it puzzles me why not.
There are some Aluminum Alloys that are as strong as steel.
What use are you needing.

Drilling down through mahogany cabin and trunk sides to pull together and give a good mechanical bond to cockpit sole and carlings etc.

Thanks TerryLL. That was actually my primary concern on the matter; cevice corrosion, so I have heard it called.
I was thinking aluminium would corrode in such a way only if starved from air in an environment similar to that of below the waterline only. I didn't think it would hurt it being up in the topsides, so thanks for the advice.
That will explain why I have not seen it used in such a way.
