Just something fun to think about.....

Sometime on Nov. 3, the supercooled magnets in sector 81 of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), outside Geneva, began to dangerously overheat. Scientists rushed to diagnose the problem, since the particle accelerator has to maintain a temperature colder than deep space in order to work. The culprit? "A bit of baguette," says Mike Lamont of the control center of CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, which built and maintains the LHC. Apparently, a passing bird may have dropped the chunk of bread on an electrical substation above the accelerator, causing a power cut. The baguette was removed, power to the cryogenic system was restored and within a few days the magnets returned to their supercool temperatures.

While most scientists would write off the event as a freak accident, two esteemed physicists have formulated a theory that suggests an alternative explanation: perhaps a time-traveling bird was sent from the future to sabotage the experiment. Bech Nielsen of the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen and Masao Ninomiya of the Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics in Kyoto, Japan, have published several papers over the past year arguing that the CERN experiment may be the latest in a series of physics research projects whose purposes are so unacceptable to the universe that they are doomed to fail, subverted by the future. Perhaps they shouldnt be playing with that stuff.

Perhaps they shouldnt be playing with that stuff.

Given that birds flying by are capable of damaging their super-expensive collider, perhaps they shouldn't. I shudder to think what might have happened had the bird deposited some guano instead of a baguette into their precious machinery.

Don't they have, like, real engineers there?

I kind of dig the time travel particle theory. The fact its gaining some ground in the community should give pause over their plans too.

sounds like they need to get a roof to protect from raining baguettes

Playing with the idea. If the bird was coming to stop something that already happened then it would stand to reason that the event is unstoppable. Being time is a manmade idea constructed to measure movement through space, all things that have happened, are happening, and will happen, exist all at once. Maybe the future the bird belonged to was simply trying to shift to another string of reality, as a ship would change course, so that they will no longer experience their version of "time".

I don’t know, just a thought.

It sounds like a theory that Sheldon and Leonard would come up with.

I kind of dig the time travel particle theory.I actually did a double take after reading the original post to make it had not been C&P'd by you.:D;)

They have security cameras in the facility that anyone can watch on the web.
Here you can see them fussing over it.
