Probably faster for him to buy Raw Faith, no?

The original HERMIONE (70 meters) had been built in 6 months ...:D
by a sensibly bigger and more experienced crew...
Can he try a down scale design ?

I thought he was offering 200K for the design work. :)

You could scale WYOMING up by 300% and maybe get there. Maybe Buehler's PILGRIM. 200K USD seems like it wouldn't even buy all the wood much less all the ancillaries.
Maybe a ferrocement replica of RAW FAITH.

it could be built in russia, in 1988 at douarnenez, there was an epoxy replica, maybe called st petersburg or something ,maybe 18-20 meters , i dont recall, the skipper told me he & his crew worked for 6 months plus all the materials, for then about 500 pounds sterling, it was delaminating in the french weather which was not that hot , the crew were starving, so i bought a brass trumpet from them to help, they had a load of old navy gear to sell, but broke or not, they were just so glad to be out of russia.
on the other hand if its worth a lot they wont let it go easily like brittannia,
but hey 200 grand for 40 metres, how long will it last ?

Could you really build a 120' ferro hull for $60,000?
Given that the hull costs 30% of the build.......
Anyway, he wants timber and I can't see it happening in that timeframe letalone the price.

Give the guy a break. At least he isn't asking that it be cartoppable. :D

A "Kon Tiki" might do the trick.

Dunno.....When they closed down the submarine pens at Balaklava, and business almost dried up at Nikolaev shipyards, you could get hand sanding of hulls and fresh paint for the cost of the paint and less than $5 a day for labor, and the labor was not unskilled. When I went into Kerch, just before cruising the Sea of Azov, My little 44 footer was in far better condition than any of the commercial or private boats in the harbor. With the economy what it is, if there is material in a shipyard, they may literally give it away just to employ the workers and have some income....a couple of hundred bucks a month is a damn good income to some folks.....
