guys,
just out of curiosity, what are the biggest jon boat type boat plans out there? the biggest i've found is the 18' garvey which is very cool, but i was on a 22' jon boat this weekend and my wheels were turning. anything out there that big? or close to it?

Bateau has one that is 20+' long by 8' wide. Designed as a flats boat so it's not very deep.

I have seen plans for a 30' english punt. Essentially a double ended jon boat, you row it with a single sculling oar standing on the rear deck or use a pole to push off the bottom. I have thought about building one. Fairly narrow.

would it be possible to increase the depth of the flats boat?

How deep.....I have drawn one of a slightly different configuration for a son, I kept it at 8'4" to trailer, and 20' long....but it can be stretched perhaps 2-3 feet. As far as the draft, what do you require.?//

would it be possible to increase the depth of the flats boat?
Make it bigger and the weight alone will make it draft deeper.
May I recommend Free!Ship software? It's a bit of a learning curve, but if I can figure it out, it can't be all that difficult.

looking for more freeboard not deeper draft, just for use on rougher water

Flat bottomed John boats aren't intended for deep water which might present a serious seastate.
Bareau's big john boat is made large so that it doesn't draw much water and can be gotten into the shallows. I wouldn't want to be in one in a serious chop.

I think that Harry Sucher's Simplified Boatbuilding - The Flat-Bottomed Boat has plans for some some large garveys and scows.
