View Full Version : How well can you read lines?

Here's a way to check how well you can perceive a lines drawing: Draw a set of lines, and without taking any lifts, carve a half model using only length, beam, depth for references. Then saw the model up at the stations and trace them onto your body plan. I did this with a peapod and was surprised just how acurate the results were. Now I'll bet you guys are thinking, "Cut up a half model, this guy's nuts!" Really though, if you don't take any lifts, it's actually quite painless, as the whole process only took about four hours, and the confidence it gave me was well worth it. Next I'd like to try carving a half model of a beutifull double ender Paul Gartside sketched for me at last years Woodenboat design course. I won't be cutting that one up!
