Yeah... so this first shot is neither... but hey.... Bazza and I went in to the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron to take a look at the Dragons after their race today. I took some happy snaps and came home wishing I'd taken a telephoto lens with me... but, I didn't. This beauty, Antara was on the hard at the RSYS

This was the view across the yard and the Harbour as the Dragons came back in...

No timber hulls, but about 3 or 4 with timber decks. The folks were nice to chat with too.

The cranes make it a very gentlemanly way to sail.

Although this one had me wondering.... a hull full of water perhaps?

After a couple of pints of the amber ale, we moved on to the Sydney Flying Squadron, about half a kilometre down the road.... where the historic 18 foot skiffs live. Here they are coming in, including a couple flying the ringtail

Very much more a sailing club ..... and Bazza immediately knew just about everyone

In the third photo, is that some sort sliding hatch at the bow? If so, what is it for? If not, what is it???

In the third photo, is that some sort sliding hatch at the bow? If so, what is it for?I believe its for the spinnaker.

It is indeed the spinnaker chute. My boat has a round hatch there, not as good as the sliding hatch, so I'll change it. I took a fair few shots like that yesterday, just gathering ideas for my refit.

Did you meet Bobby Tearne the bilge rat? (an old co-worker of mine)

BTW Antara races with the Sydney Amateurs.

The only Bob that I was introduced to was an 18' skiff sailor that Baz sold a boat to back in the 60's (the old Travelodge) He used to own a pub down south a bit. He's still sailing the historics.

There were a couple of guys whose name I didn't catch.

We raised a glass to Shorty too. A few tales were told - but the three beer rule was in force and they won't be retold here (or SA for that matter).

We are planning a return... and will cough up the $10 for the ferry and follow the race around. I'll take a lens or two next time.

Bobby's nickname is "Angry" especially if you crew! He has a few Worlds and national 18ft titles under his belt. Was a founder of the traditional division and built a 6 footer!! and a few 10's.

I'm sure Baz will know him. Baz won two World titles in the 18's himself.
