Are plans available for this boat? i was reading in thirty wooden boats ian oughtred had a hand in developing therse plans, but i cant find anything on robert steward,
Its a boat i would love to build in the future,if not a caladonian yawl or arctic tern, but i really like the deck arrangement on the peter boat for extended cruising

The Dracombe PeterBoat was designed by John Watkinson, who designed the other boats in the Drascombe range, most notably the Drascombe Lugger. The others were built in fiberglass (and some are still in production) but only a few Peterboats were built and only in wood.
After John died in 1997, his family licensed all rights to his designs to a builder. As a result, WB no longer sells the plans, and as far as I know they're not available anywhere. I saw a set for sale once ... wish I'd bought them when I had the chance.

Thats a nice pic, its a shame about the plans situation i really liked the look of that boat. Seems odd that its not been done in grp as all the others have, and that more weren`t built in wood.
So who is robert steward? The builder?
Maybe when the time comes i`ll get in touch with mr oughtred and see what he says abot a similar deck arrangement on one of his own desighns, has this been done?

From what I know from a local restorer who fixed up an old Lugger, no plans and no rights to build are available for any of these boats.

Google books has these drawing - page 32 of "30 wooden boats"

I know John Kerr built one in the UK but he sadly passed away some years ago.
It says the plans are available from Robert Steward.

So if old plans came up would you be able to build the boat legally, would you have to register it?
RodBST- that looks great,so yes it can be done!
brian- thanks for that link

Whether you could build "legally" would depend on the conditions under which the plans were originally sold. Typically, a person who buys plans from a designer has the right to build one and only one boat. So if you could find a set and no one had built a boat from that set, then yes, you could probably build one legally. No need to register that I can think of.

That mainsail and rig remind anyone of the current Norseboat setup? Interesting boats, too bad they've fallen into the non-buildable category...

Would John Welsfords 6M whaler give similar seakeeping and sailing characteristics as the peter boat?
