I've read your threads about Sjogin, and the stove. But I was very pleased to read your article in Messing About In Boats (nov 2009). Nice writing, I felt like I was there.
I also sail off season, for years. This year is the first time I'll have any kind of heat with me, an Aladdin lamp. I also find comfort in just being aboard, making tea or a sandwich. Last year I sailed my dory and my melonseed on nice winter days, this will be luxury.

Thanks John. The review first appeared in WoodenBoat in the January 2008 issue. I asked Matt Murphy if I could send it to MAIB and he said OK. I sent a copy of the PDF to Bob Hicks and here we are.

LOL, you know, I am getting old. I thought I'd read most of it before. I just thought it was on this forum. I often have to read a bit of something to know if I've already finished a magazine......
Thanks anyway, I enjoyed it twice.

Thanks Sailboy3.
I need an oil lamp for Sjogin. John, what kind of Aladdin lamp do you have?

I'm not sure which model. It's not fancy, it has a metal reservoir and a tall clear glass chimney. It's bulkhead mounted, not gimballed, it uses a smoke bell, though it doesn't visibly smoke. It's warm and bright and cheery. I'll try to remember to check the model next time, I think it's something simple, like 11s. It is also probably 40 years old. They are expensive, (new) but there are many on ebay.

Those Alladins are lovely but the glasses don't like a puff of cold air on one side .Ping !
Lots of heat and an excellent light .
