I found her a few years ago in Half Moon Bay, CA and fell in love. She's currently gutted and on the long road to recovery. The problem is that I have not been able to find any plans or identify her designer. I've checking with Mystic, Wooden Boat and the Chicago Maritime Society (she was built in chicago) all to no avail. I do know that she was built at the Chicago Boat Building Company in the late 1930's and that she's gorgeous! Ketch Rig, She's 40' over all, 14' beam, cast iron keel, 22,000 lbs empty draws 5.5'.Thanks in advance for any incite you may bring.

Very interesting and unique trim at the transom. That should help, if you show the pic to enough old salts.

I agree with Donn that taffrail should picque some ones memory because it is unique.
You figure out any particular reason for it yet?

Taffrail...thanks O&O! I figured it had a name.

"\Taff"rail\, n. [D. tafereel a panel, picture, fr.
tafel table, fr. L. tabula. See {Table}.] (Naut.)
The upper part of a ship's stern, which is flat like a table
on the top, and sometimes ornamented with carved work; the
rail around a ship's stern. [Written also {tafferel}.]"

Glad to help you out O&O East.
Now if we can only do the same for our original poster with that lovely vessel.

Does she or did she have a name or documentation number? If so the Coast Guard Documentation search thingy may provide some clues.

What Dale said. smile.gif

If she was ever Coastie documented, then they will have all of that info on file. Builder, designer, etc.

Of course, if she is 40' I am assuming you already applied for coastie doc... no?

Dale Genther and TimothyB thanks for your input. Currently she only has CA DMV numbers which i am trying to trace back. I will also contact the Coast Guard and see if they can search by builder/yard.

Anyone else out there have any thoughts on who may have designed such a beauty? Anyone know where I can find plans by A.M. Deering? just a hunch. I've check WB and Mystic...no luck.

Thanks

She has been around awhile...the "taffyrail" may not be original.
