A mass of Latin words falls upon the facts like soft snow, blurring the outline and covering up all the details. The great enemy of clear language is insincerity. When there is a gap between one's real and one's declared aims, one turns as it were instinctively to long words and exhausted idioms, like a cuttlefish spurting out ink. In our age there is no such thing as "keeping out of politics". All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred, and schizophrenia. When
the general atmosphere is bad, language must suffer.
--- George Orwell, writer (1903-1950)

Nice one, Chuck.

Pretty scary stuff, lies.

Here's a quote from right here in the Bilge:

The Old Testament was not "given to the Jews", they wrote the danged thing themselves.
You are aware that the Only use for the Bible is for control, right?

.

If the Bible was written for control im sure our politicians would be using it.

I disagree with Orwell's "in our age." It was so in Athenian democracy and in Rome with its Senate and mobs. The difference in our age is that the political manipulation of the masses is done by means which leave a record. In the old days it was word-of-mouth, but just as full of "lies, evasions, folly, hatred, and schizophrenia." You can't get a mob worked up without them.

... You can't get a mob worked up without them.

And thousands of years on the mob still cooperates.
