I have an early Peterborough strip built Row Boat in the shop at the moment for a re-varnish. As I'm cleaning it up I'm wondering just how these were built.
Anyone know of or have any literature concerning the methods used in the construction of this type of rowing boats and the early all wood strip planked canoes, etc.? I have a little info from a pro builder buddy of mine, namely that they were production built on a solid form with grooves for each rib, each strip was rabbeted into the next and a few other tidbits. But I'd like to find out more.
Is there any literature out there that I can be pointed towards?
I don't plan on building one but inquiring minds want to know...
Thanks in advance.
