I had a quick perusal, it seems to be one of the better issues. Congratulations to Dave Gentry for getting one of his boats in the launchings section. He sureley deserves an article all to himself.

I see Russ Manheimer, Steven Bauer and an ugly Welsh git's picture in the advertising for next year's WBS.

The pullout "Getting Started in Boats" is about rowing written by Karen Wales, At first glance it seems really good.

I liked Karen's pullout also. I believe the artist switched diagrams showing how to feather at the catch and finish of a stroke, but it may be a dylsexic moment for me.

When I first started rowing in shells there was one guy who thought the way to feather spoon blades was to turn the blade so the 'scoop' faced down on the recovery. He learned quickly that that wasn't the case, but I couldn't see how he could even do it in the first place!! :D

I had a quick perusal.Maybe I should put my subscription in your name. That way, when you receive it you could just mail it on to me third class and I'd still get it three weeks or so sooner than I am now.

My last one came late,it's still sitting here wrapped in plastic. I bought a newstand copy to take on the plane with me.

There is something organic about the randomness of the delivery system.

I drove right by Hamilton Marine on the way home from sailing. They get it sooner than most subscribers. I wish I'd stopped.

Sure was some exciting sailing today! The scariest part was sitting on the boat back at the mooring trying to scrape up the courage to get in the dinghy and row back to shore in 25 knot winds with whitecaps all around. We couldn't possibly make the boat ramp, we were lucky to make the beach without getting blown out to the islands.

It was windy today here also. Vinny, Shawn and their daughter visiting from Denver went out with a deep reef and new club jib only. They looked bundled up from what I could see.

We went out in the late afternoon and got blasted. I will go out tomorrow, but before noon this time. Before it comes around to the NW and gusts up like Steven struggled with.

Yes we went out and had a great sail along with Lazy Jack. Our new sails make a great difference in ease of handling and pointing ability, cutting along through the water was a pleasure. It was quite brisk as we tacked back into the harbor. Sad as we unloaded some gear, after eating lunch at the docks. We will probably get a few more trips in before it is time to put her up for the winter. Good to see you Dave I thought I might of seen you out and about.
Should have checked the magazine rack at Shermans so I could have WB#211 also, guess I can't comment on that one!

We were outside doing fall cleanup work and watched you set sail and zip around the outer harbor.

I listened to the football game (Margaret's line: "Which favorite teams are you listening to now, Dave?" ) and then we went out. It was probably gusting to 18-20 but my boat does best with a short crew in under 12. Above that I reef and set a smaller jib or she just lays over and lugs, throwing spray every which way. She (the boat) doesn't like that at all.... :D

Got mine today in eastern Pennsylvania (Bethlehem) and the timing could'nt have been better. Outside all day going from job to job getting wet and cold for the last 2 days, truck heater fan switch went bellly up, so can't warm up driving around, came home to find WB magazine, hot chocolate, new bag of Chips Ahoy (what else does a sailor eat?), and new, working, electric blanket. Just the things to warm a wet, cold to the bone, old man.

And then what happens? After my warm up I hear a call for supper and since we did not make last week's show in St Mike's my wife makes breaded flounder, asparagus, bread and butter and opened a bottle of 2007 white videl from St Mikes Winery. She's a real keeper!

Life is Good.:)

I got mine four days ago, for what it's worth. Rob't. McKenna's article on the McCoy brothers combines two of my favorite subjects; boats of the golden era and rum/rum running. It doesn't get better than that for me!

I'm going to see the Penguin tomorrow. Billy Straub was an anachronism around here; a boatbuilder in landlocked PA. I can really indentify with him. I moved to this area a year or so after he died. There was one old and friendly man still working in his shop. I was just starting in woodworking then and loved to see all that old iron. I'll post after I see it. Rick

Landlocked,

Good to hear someone is checking out the Penguin. You are a lot closer than I am.

I was thinking it might make a nice trainer for my two boys, but I don't think I need another project right now.

Rick, How did you make out with the Penguin? I saw it had a 570 area code so it had to be somewhere eastern-central of Pa. You ever come down to the Lehigh Valley area? Jim

Got mine last week

Terrific article about the resurrection of the old "fish camp" resort on Camano Island, WA, aka "Cama Beach Resort" with deep participation and support from the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle. This is a win-win-win deal for all concerned. The heirs of the property certainly stepped up to the plate with a fine donation of land to make this happen.
