Check out the October 2009 issue, pp. 26-28, for a fishing industry-professional perspective on plywood/epoxy/fiberglass/closed-cell-foam based fisherman active since early this year. #679 measures 31'x7'8"x12"x115HP/27ktsx3000lbs.

Typically not exactly singing 'green praises' in light of eco watch-dog groups' strong legal/regulatory moves against much of the commercial fishing industry, in this context on this subject NF is right on target. There is full comprehension and thus respectful treatment of 'green' attributes - as in both ecologically sustainable and fiscally rewarding (greenbacks) - in this early interpretation of principles to be tested also on larger hulls including offshore-duty. The point is to show options in 3-D and have commercial folks draw their own conclusions.

The next step is inboard-diesel-powered inshore-offshore displacement speed fuel-mizer to be prepared for $5.-/gal.
WOODENBOAT would have first pick of that type when it is launched.; only in planning-stages - not under construction yet !

As a footnote, owner's and builders' preferred the 'yachty' longer-house version with cuddy over the short-house-cum-sh-t-house that would have offered a double-length open cockpit, particularly suitable for 30+ 2'x3' lobstertraps. Yachty flavor though makes for a fine and swift-on-demand 2+2 bunks/enclosed-head trailer-cruiser at under 3000lbs on-trailer-weight.

Could there be additional advanced but affordable wooden working craft in the offing ? It being the only fully-understood (and longest-serving !!) 'renewable' hull-construction material, we sure have been pushing that way... Building-in (wooden-structure-based) 'hard sinking-resistance' helps the discerning prospective owner engaged in 24/7/365-capable water-borne commerce.
