flash gordon

everyone panned it for it's cheap theatrics and mindless plot

nobody saw it for what it was .. a send up , which makes it good enough to be bad enough to be really good

Lake Placid.
The Replacements.
Wind (and I have my bunker gear on for that one).
The Road to Wellville.

I've got a whole collection of movies that most people would use as coasters.

A movie so bad it's brilliant is Water starring Billie Connelly and David Niven (amongst others). Been trying to find it on DVD - no luck so far....

The Fifth Element

I'm torn between agreeing wholeheartedly and disagreeing because the cheesiness in The Fifth Element is intentional. Being intentional makes it a good action/comedy film and not cheesy.

My pick for good despite being cheesy is, after far too much thought, "Midway". Th acting was so-so (cheesy), the visuals boarder on poor (scenes that played good as Pearl Harbor seem cheesy and cheap when reused as Midway) but the history in the movie seems accurate and I like the movie despite its faults.

When my wife was born, her mother wanted a short name, hers was too long (Henrietta Annamaria) . So she named her after Flash's girlfriend, Dale. I remind her of that once in while.

The Last Starfighter

I only like cheese when it's from outer-space...........

And The Fifth Element is very good cheese indeed.

I've always thought that 'Tombstone' is the best cheesy Western ever made.

All the major characters are introduced with shots of their boots.

Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday has lines that I use some days.

'Ahm yoah huckleberrih.' :D

I like to paraphrase Doc, "Why Wyatt, we hayeve here an educated mayin.":D (He actually said, "Evidently Mr. Ringo's an educated man.")

The complete transcript (love the latin):
Johnny Ringo (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000299/): [Ringo steps up to Doc] And you must be Doc Holliday.
Doc Holliday (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000174/): That's the rumor.
Johnny Ringo (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000299/): You retired too?
Doc Holliday (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000174/): Not me. I'm in my prime.
Johnny Ringo (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000299/): Yeah, you look it.
Doc Holliday (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000174/): And you must be Ringo. Look, darling, Johnny Ringo. The deadliest pistoleer since Wild Bill, they say. What do you think, darling? Should I hate him?
Kate (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001586/): You don't even know him.
Doc Holliday (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000174/): Yes, but there's just something about him. Something around the eyes, I don't know, reminds me of... me. No. I'm sure of it, I hate him.
Wyatt Earp (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000621/): [to Ringo] He's drunk.
Doc Holliday (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000174/): In vino veritas.
["In wine is truth" meaning: "When I'm drinking, I speak my mind"]
Johnny Ringo (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000299/): Age quod agis.
["Do what you do" meaning: "Do what you do best"]
Doc Holliday (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000174/): Credat Judaeus apella, non ego.
["The Jew Apella may believe it, not I" meaning: "I don't believe drinking is what I do best."]
Johnny Ringo (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000299/): [pats his gun] Eventus stultorum magister.
["Events are the teachers of fools" meaning: "Fools have to learn by experience"]
Doc Holliday (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000174/): [gives a Cheshire cat smile] In pace requiescat.
["Rest in peace" meaning: "It's your funeral!"]
Tombstone Marshal Fred White (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001013/): Come on boys. We don't want any trouble in here. Not in any language.
Doc Holliday (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000174/): Evidently Mr. Ringo's an educated man. Now I really hate him.
