I am looking at buying some. Sorby's look nice but being Sorby, they are expensive. Has anyone used Diefenbacher paring chisels and do they like them?

LeeValley has these from the US site. But you probably know.

David, these are truly elegant and the product of a crafstman. Lead time is three to four weeks on paring chisels. I can see why - dang, I tried to post the image but it is really big, so here is a link:

No, but among storebought I liked the Ashley Iles ($30) at a fraction of the price of the hand-forged Barr's ($85) or spendy ($65) Blue Spruce, Lie Nielsen's ($55) or Sorby ($40). I've used most of these and found the AI's a thinner, handier, sharper, easier-to-sharpen chisel than 2-Cherries ( also $30).

But the cheapest method by far is to scrounge up a set of older Stanley or Craftsman butt chisels to get you by until you can collect and rehab best-quality, drop-forged prewar chisels from flea markets and on-line auctions. You'll always need a selection of butt chisels to use in tight spots and around hardware, and the steel in Stanley's most humble butt chisel came out of the same pot and drop forge their expensive Everlasts and 750's did. It takes a long time to make up size sets this way, but after buying them by lot, rehabbing and selling off the excess I average well under 10 bucks a chisel for quality less than Barr but equal to or superior to L/N.

Check out this company's selection. Somone posted these guys out of NY a while ago. I kept the link because they have tradition style holdfasts. But I loved their chisel department and the info they have about it.

They carry the Sorby's as well as the two cherries and Japanese brands.
