Now that I'm done sobbing over my old Chris Craft I will get to the project at hand.
The boat that I am currently building is from a set of plans that I bought back in 1983. I know, your probably thinking what a procrastinator I am. Well better late than never I always say.
I built the frames from (and I know this is a bad idea but I had to use what I had) red oak and marine fir plywood. I figured that the wood that I had was free and the boat won't spend much time in the water and will be stored indoors. Besides that I will be putting several coats of epoxy inside and out. I just finished installing the engine beds after adding the keel and chines of yellow pine laminations. I have just about finished fairing all of the frames and can't quite decide when enough is enough. I am planning to use 1/4" marine fir ply on the bottom of the hull and the plans call for bronze nails for fastening. I think I have decided to go with thickened West systems and stainless screws instead. Any suggestions? I also plan to cover the hull with fiberglass (sorry about the profanity) and West systems. Thanks for the encouragement in advance and I will continue to send progress photos as I slowly make progress.
By the way does anyone have a suggestion about where to find a used 250cc motorcycle engine and how this might be set up to run in this 9' boat. the plans are not to clear on the setup.

Hope this helps.

what about using a motorcycle engine with a driveshaft and hook it up to an old jet propulsion
from a jet ski.call around and see if you can find a jetski that was scaped. but has good motor and jet.just a thought. JLM

I never thought of using a jet ski engine. That is a good idea but I,m not sure what size engine would be compatable with a 250cc turning a prop. I'm not sure either how the cooling works on those. Would I need a special type of intake mounted in the hull? Lots of questions but a great idea. I could probably find an old jet ski for the same price as a motorcycle. I suppose that the jet drive would replace the rudder and would be a safer setup. any comments or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks JLM.

from the size of your boat it looks about the same size as a jet ski or will at least weigh as much as on.look at the whole setup and see how its hooked up and see if it will work for you.for size of motor try looking for an older style jet ski (the ones you stand up on )with a 440cc for speeds around 40+ mph good luck JLM

PS speed is est.the old jet ski i had was a 440 and did about 40 mph
