Beaky I hope you don't mind but I didn't think enough members were getting to enjoy it where it was.

Loved it WX, it's interesting that most of the newer craft just don't seem to haver the lines or the style of the older boats. Liked the owner of 'Blott's sense of humor.

nice, interesting to see designs where low bridges seem to be the biggest design restraint.

Nice pictures! The wife and I rented an old 25 foot wooden power boat there for a couple of weeks 30 years ago. It's pictured in the first snap. We were travelling very lightly, no decent camera, but picked up a tiny "Brownie" at a chemist's shop for less than a pound. We threw the camera away after use, but the faded, blurry snaps are still lying around in an old shoe box.

The choice of power boat was very inexpensive and a good one for the blustery weather. We had shelter, heat, and an instantaneous hot water heater on that little boat. We picked it up just upstream of the Potter Heigham bridge. I think the little yard was called Martham's Ferry Boats. No pix of going under the Potter Heigham bridge though, the tide was up and clearance dicey, but we got through.

Unbelievable; how long must it have taken to accumulate that # of "excellent" images.

Wouldn't you just love to capture a few images?

Well worth the "cruise"

Gert when you see an image you like hit pause. Then go to Show info at the top right hand corner of the screen and click on it. This will bring up the site the imagine resides on, you may have to go though several pages to find the image. When you do click on it to enlarge it then right click to save it.

sorry :o busted

I just wanted to know how it's done; copyright is about profiting from other peoples work; I'm only looking for boat/rigging details & ideas that might work on the boat I'm currently building. So I am actualy not after the image so much as the information on that image. I supose we could argue who ownes that. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. ;)

I have a "pro" flicker site my self. The images are "protectable from copy" if the owner wishes it.

WX

perfectly correct Beaky regarding possible copy right. I should have mentioned that.

The quality of the snaps is poor because there're scanned Brownie prints. I have several more in boxes somewhere. I'll see if I can find some better ones. I love your site!

We noticed when we were exploring the Broads 30 years ago that the old sailboats seemed to be hanging on, but the old power boats were disappearing and large fiberglass bath tubs taking their place. A shame really.

I think the secret is to visit in the off season when the weather and fewer boats gives the place a timeless quality. We might get back someday.

hi dave

The quality of the snaps is poor

i wouldent worry about the quality as thats not really what the group is about even though it is nice to get a really pretty picture now and again as it makes the slide show look good but for collecting boaty pictures, its the history and diversity that adds most to the group to my mind.

the old power boats were disappearing

many of them have been bought and low loaded out into other waters.

the old power boats were disappearing

thinking about it, they are in private hands now and not in hire

fleets so they dont cruise so often.

you do get to see a really nice line up when the vintage wooden

boat ass have their meet up.

the martham yard still hire out wooden cruisers.

Hi Beaky,
Rented a motor boat from a little yard just down from Norwich in '70. GF and I had a lovely week, not much traffic, great wild life (some rain) no pix of course. On the way back to the yard at the end of the week, we found a sister boat drifting down the river, out of fuel. Lashed them along side and got them to a pier. Carried on to the yard and told the owner. "Why the hell didn't you tow them in" he said. "Well, said I, I signed your conditions and writ big at the bottom was 'no towing'. He intimated that it wasn't supposed to apply to his own boats", muttering as he set off in his launch.
Very happy days.
I still have the log somewhere, carefully typed up by the GF, every bird sighting, boat noted, pubs visited and ,of course, the first night when we dried out as I had forgotten that the river is tidal-Duh.
Spent a rather uncomfortable time in the downhill berth.
A
The boat was called Delisieux or some such.

hi andrewe

glad you enjoyed yourself.

the southern broads are so different from the northern broads.

northern rivers on the whole are smaller and busier and lots of thatched buildings.

southern rivers are much wider and quieter but both are beautiful and full of nice sights.

It's a couple of years since I sailed up to Horsey, and a good 30 years since I first sailed there! That brings back some memories :-)
I'll be there in two weeks time, but I don't think I'll be short tacking my dad's dutchman up there.... Motor time! ;-)

Thanks Beaky,
But my parents live in the area - so they keep me abreast of the happenings. I visit quite regularly, but don't always get too much time on the water... Always so much else to do. This summer we are visiting with my sister-in-law and her family. They have never been to UK before, so we are going to make an effort to see a bit of the Northern rivers in my dad's motor cruiser. I'd like to take his sailing boat, but time is short and people are many!
