Weren't those originally made only for rebreathers, meaning NOT for SCUBA?

Dbl hose were the original SCUBA regulators, single and double stage.

Something at the back of my memory tells me that a cousin of mine made one by starting with a Calor Gas regulator; that would have been very early 1960's.

As I recall, he wanted to walk across the Thames, at, approximately, Hampton Court Reach, and he did so, wearing not flippers but a pair of Plimsolls with lead weights cast onto the bottom of them. I was younger than him so I cannot recall why he wanted to do that.
Edited to add - he did it OK.

Growing up I remember DIY books on making your own scua gear; army ammo belts for weight belt ... 'w/ quick release' of course, and aircraft hyd-sys preload compressors to fill tanks, etc etc
