Well, down here the bump is out in Aussie rules which makes the whole game a joke in many supporters eyes. And jockeys are threatening strike action because they are only allowed to whip a horse up to 18 times with a padded whip to urge them on to win, or not as the case may be. The RSPCA is happy, the racing industry maybe not so.
In the game of Aussie rules industrial health and safety law has come up against traditional practice and rules of the game. Now at the top level all players are 'professional', ie they are full time game players, and entertainers too as it happens, and seeing the game is their 'job' they are covered by those laws. As time goes on it could get even funnier!

Sports humour... well, it's always struck me as funny that people are interested in watching "football" (not referring to "soccer" here), baseball, golf, or any kind of auto racing that does not involve right turns. Basketball... well, it's not boring to watch, at least, but it doesn't do much for me.

Actually the whole concept of pro sports is a bit weird when you think about it. Even with hockey, a sport I do enjoy, I'd rather watch international play (granted, with NHL players if its men's) than the NHL.

I heard that the Red Sox were going to move to the Philippines, and rename themselves the Manila Folders.

This is supposedly a true story. Major league baseball player stole third base, but his team mate was already on third, and asked him, "Where do you think you'r going?"

"Back to second, if I can make it."

You won't find any mirth in the Cleveland sports scene.
