70 year old oak. It get 6 or 7 coats of Epifanes, then an agressive sanding with 120 grit, then start all over again.
Time, just time.... smile.gif

Hughman, good one Skipper. 7 or 8 coats will allow a good amount of smelling.

I really dislike the sour smell. I find it disgusting. I like the look of varnish, so I'll put up with the smell.
What I do like is the way the varnish smell clings to clothes and we get to share the smells with others in our community. When I go to the tote to have a bet during the day and I'm smelling really good, I don't ever have to line up ... the lines just seem to break up in front of me at the counter ... another plus for varnish. I know the varnish smell must be strong because it shifts hardened gamblers, .
Warren.
