non drying paint

I have caulked a lapstrake by veining and then using boatlife polysulfide I let it dry for several days it seemed fine then I primed with werdol primer and if you run your finger under the laps the primer will rub off on your fingers I am wondering how bad I have messed up and what would someone do to fix it after you get done dopeslapping yourself.It also is somewhat cold after the heat from the shop is gone. Thank you for any help

I have seen some of that boatlife that people had used as a sealer to seat fibreglass to aluminum and it was still messy years later.I still like caulking that is the same base as the paint that will be used over it. Other caulk manufacturers claim their caulking is paintable yet the claims are somewhat contradictory to regular paint practices.For instance,exterior water based caulks are pretty much thick latex with silicones and such added yet we were always taught never to use oil base paints over latex.I swear all this used to be simpler before they came out with all these new/improved 20-30 yr products.Seems alot of these are really only suited as bedding compounds rather than surface caulks.It may last 30 years but it's going to do so as a rubber rope on the ground.

Alot of those caulks will skin over and take months to actually dry.Will feel dry to the touch but will still be very wet under the film. It will breathe solvents into your paint for a long time.Also,was it compatible with what the boat was caulked with before? Was there any residue of the old caulking?

Sucker born everyday , no one can help your paint dry . Scrape it off while it's easy , start agian .
