I saw that. Too bad to see the passing of such an interesting, iconoclastic woodworker.

Maloof and Krenov in the same year. :(
Masters of the highest caliber.

I was going to call Jim and Brita just last week, but things got by me.
He was a good friend, a mentor to thousands if not millions, besides me.
I will treasure his friendship, and kind, gentle manner for the rest of my life.
Yes he lived a good, long, full life. He was terribly frustrated these past few years, with his failing eyesight, but the last time I talked to him, back in April, he was still chugging along making and selling his trademark wooden planes.
I'll hoist a frosty one in his honor tonight...

Oh, I hadn't heard that. I never met him, but was touched by his books and his work. His woodworking was first rate. RIP.

Krenov and Maloof were and are major influences in my own craftsmanship. the world is a better place from the art that these men fostered. David www.boatsmithfl.com

Krenov was "the master" when it came to wood, I bought 4 of his books & have read, re-read, & dipped into them ever since.
I now have odd(some really odd!) bits of oak, cherry, lime, pear, walnut, blackwood, mahog, teak, etc. squirreled away for retirement because of Jim, I have turned out wall cabinets, all with nicely balanced frames/doors. cabinets of drawers, fancy tables, following the grain, all in his style, It just makes sense!
RIP James.

There must be a refinishing/remodeling project going on in heaven with the loss of so many skilled folks these days. RIP, Sir.

I talked with David Welter (The man who makes it work at CORFWWP, and very close friend of Jim's) last night. Jim's family will have a private family and close friends ceremony of Jim's life, and spread his ashes along one of his favorite stretches of North Coast headlands.
There will probably be some sort of more public ceremony in the future. David promised to keep me in the loop on that, and I will post any information I get, here.
