" The producers of the show denied the skits had been racist, saying they had meant to mock the characters making the offensive remarks."

 Sounds like some of the lunkheads around here who try to project their own trash onto others in similar fashion. It's OK when liberals do it...they mean well.

It's just a stupid joke reflecting Canadian stereotypes about armed US citizens that also manages the unconscious racism all too common in the mostly white cultures that sweep up through the plains of both nations.

Given there is nothing here that's either right or left, liberal or conservative, post #2 appears a very fine example of projection.

A C&P from the article :

"We're not racists. It will be good to have a Negro in the White House. It will be practical. Black on white, it will be easier to shoot him," one of the show's hosts remarked.

The show also featured an interview with an actor pretending to be Obama. The host said, "The blacks, you all look alike," and then warned viewers to hide their purses.

The show generated more than 200 complaints. The producers of the show denied the skits had been racist, saying they had meant to mock the characters making the offensive remarks.

Wow 200 complaints:rolleyes: Sort of shows where the Canadians really stand on racism.

This sounds like something 'The Chaser', a VERY edgy satyrical TV show here did. I heard they have franchised the idea, if they didn't enrage some group or other every show they weren't doing it right!

"Sort of shows where the Canadians really stand on racism." - Paul G.

Don't get your knickers in a twist because we Canadians are not as reactionary as you Americans. Just because there are not race riots over this doesn't mean that there is not significant distaste for this type of humour. The Quebec arm of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has always been a bit more scathing in it's 'humour' and constantly skirts the edge of propriety, occasionally stepping over the line. They are especially fond of tweaking the noses of the Canadian and American establishment. This time they tweaked a bit too hard, and they will suffer for it.

The producers and writers of this foolishness will be rebuked, and they probably will have their budgets for their next projects trimmed drastically so they will feel viscerally the error of their ways, and maybe they will learn a bit of a lesson. It wouldn't surprise me that a few writers and a producer or two get canned.

We take care of our internal problems in typically Canadian fashion - quietly and efficiently. No need for hystrionics and finger-pointing.

Want a talk about Victoria's sewer system? That would be the Straits of Juan de Fuca , is that typical quiet efficiency?

A Chris Rock joke: "George Bush f ###ed up so bad that he made it impossible for a white man to be elected president! 'Vote for a white man? Nooo... we can't take that chance again!'"

A Chris Rock joke: "George Bush f ###ed up so bad that he made it impossible for a white man to be elected president! 'Vote for a white man? Nooo... we can't take that chance again!'"That's some funny right there. I liked his turn as a double-extra-super-loathsome racist movie producer in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back: "I want a blond-haired blue-eyed white boy scrubbing my floor!!"

<Oh, I can't resist! Paul is gonna have an apoplectic fit over this ...>

Yes, Paul, quietly and efficiently. Raw sewage makes no noise, and the tides in the Strait of Juan de Fuca move it efficiently away from Victoria. Once again, the only folks making a big noise over it is you Americans...

(Sorry, we haven't had time to fix that problem since the last time you excoriated us over it. Care to loan us a few billion 'till next Thursday?)

By the way, what does Victoria's sewage treatment woes have to do with racism? Or do you just have a problem with Canadians in general?

It appears to be so, TD. Is your rapid rise to answer the question indicative of your suffering from the same affliction?
