Have you contacted the USCG Historian's Office?

http://www.uscg.mil/history/default.asp

I don't know that they can help, but maybe they can find something using the information you have on that plaque.

Good luck.

Several years ago I got very detailed plans for a 125' cutter from the Coast Guard Museum Northwest.

Their web page is: http://www.rexmwess.com/cgpatchs/cogardmuseum.html

Ooooo..... That's a nice find.... Are you thinking about doing something with her?

Does anybody have a 3D model of a similar hull?
The daughter of the now deceased owner (Bruce) in the pictures wants to turn the hull into something useful/interesting/non-floating and I would like to do some 3D doodling to help her with a design. I do not want to start by building the 3D hull model as I've got to may other things I can't get too as it is, without be doing that.
Bruce hung on to the boat a bit too long, saying he was going to get her going again. (He had her for 30+ years.) I helped him several times block her off the ground and keep the covers in good shape but time and neglect have started to make inroads and she is being called back to earth from which she sprung. I tried unsuccessfully over the years to talk him into letting her go to a good home that would float her, but to no avail. His daughter wants the boat to live on, but it will be 'on the hill', as an "ARK". Not clear yet what she means by that but if I can get a 3D model of anything vaguely similar I will print out some different views and get them to her so she can sketch her ideas and then maybe help her build the Bruce Sprague memorial 'ARK'.

I have the plans. Someone in the CG historical or plans office sent me microfich of the plans. I have prints. There are quite a few sheets.

If I had a table of offsets and a big shot of motivation I can build a shell of the hull shape and that is what I am looking for. The shot of motivation is the hard part. With offsets, I'll end up spending nearly a full day getting the offsets in and the shell views printed out. With a precooked model I spend 30 minutes getting the printouts ready to sketch on. So, I'm really hoping for a precooked 3D model that is just close so it can be used to sketch//conceptualize the '?ARK?'. Some sort of peapod hull would work I think.

Hi there, This is what I have been looking for over the last few days. Have you done anything about building one or changed the designs at all in Google Sketchup. I was searching around for whaleboats because that's the closest thing I could think of that looks about the same as this one :)

Glad you found it, now to work out how to build it :)

My interest was to help someone who was thinking about recycling an 'over the hill' wooden hull by giving them some 3D views to sketch on. They never got back in touch so it is a sleeping project.

Bought the plans from the Coast Guard museum Northwest. They have a large assortment plans at a low cost. The person on the phone, always let me order first, then pay later.

Thanks I have sent them an email and will see where that gets me. I live in Australia so is a bit of a hassel to call them but if I don't hear anything about the email then I will.
So "jwel14" did you end up building a motor surf boat? I am thinking that 25 foot is pretty big so I am reading the "scaling designs" thread here too :) Thanks All

Simonmags, No longer have a garage. So, am wanting to make a R/C model of it. Will, when I learn more about lining the planks, etc for a lapstrake boat on a small scale. Wish I could built it and many others full size!

I found a really good little article on lapstrake using plywood which is what I was thinking about if I went that way, not sure how much handling difference it would make to just do a straigh plywood butt joined hull instead of lapstrake. I'm not really thinking of starting for a year or so while I get some more tools together anyway so I have time to think about it :)

Lapstrake article http://www.danenbergboatworks.com/lapstrake.htm

Still waiting to here back from the uscg historians office about the plans, I got the wrong email address the first time, I thinkI have the right one now.

Does anyone know where this original Navy boat is located and how I may get in touch with the owner?

Thanks,
Jeff
