I enjoyed the thread about flares.

A couple of days later I was given some 1970s Yachting World magazines from the UK.

I spotted this advertisment in the December 1975 issue.

I take it that an ordinary .22 rimfire cartridge would be inserted behind the flare, which would trap the bullet when fired.

Is this or anything similar still available in the UK?

Oh and are firearms certificates still free-issue?

I actually remember those; as Doug says, the Dial-a-Star was replaced by the Miniflare, which does not need an FAC, mainly because it avoided the hassle of having to get an FAC.

Yes you can still get one and you need one if you have a Verey pistol.
