What's that stain?
Ralphw

the stain is "Interstain" Red interlux...
same color as what was on it from factory.
its a paste stain so its fills the grain. but you need to thin it with 333 brushing liquid also with the 333 on a towel you can control the darkness of it and blend it quite nice.

Excellent work! I like your yellow haired helper!
You should seriously consider submitting your pictures and story to "The Thompson Dockside." This is the newsletter and webpage for boats and enthusiasts of Thompson Boats: Cruisers, Inc.; T & T Boats; and Grady-White Boats. www.thompsondockside.com. (http://www.thompsondockside.com.) Your story would make a great addition.
As you probably are aware, Cruisers, Inc. was a spin-off from Thompson Boat and Grady-White Boats was a spin-off from Cruisers, Inc. Glen Grady began his boat building career at Thompson Boat in Peshtigo, WI circa 1948. He transitioned to newly formed Cruisers, Inc. in 1953 as one of the original laborers. He worked his way up to becoming sales manager. He departed late in 1959 and moved to North carolina to establish Grady-White Boats with a Cruisers, Inc. dealrship (Don White). G-W made their first boats in January 1960 (not 1958 like the company claims - that's incorrect).
Mark your calendar for the 5th Thompson Antique & Classic Boat Rally 11-13 August 2006 held at Nestegg Marine in Marinette, WI. We have yet to have a Grady-White displayed. It would be wonderful to have you take part.

thanks
Working on the 4 pane windshield/sidewindow today.
I was debating whether or not to replicate the original with the hinged frames in front or just do stationary windows like the sides.
rainy and cold :(
Yes I was aware of the Thompson/Cruisers/Grady connection.
Actually I saw a few Cruisers while browsing the web that are identical to my grady right down to the deck hardware.
I will check out the thompsons dockside site.
Thanks

I'm interested in restoring my 1965 Grady White Pacific 191. I', good with my hands, I can fix anything, cars, motorcycyles but I'm not familiar with wood work. Where do I begin? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Peter.

G-W made their first boats in January 1960 (not 1958 like the company claims - that's incorrect)
.
They don't make that claim. Says here the company was founded by the partners in 1959 and they shipped their fist boats in 1960: http://www.gradywhite.com/anniversary/50th_book.htm
Just sayin....

That's becasue the Grady-White Boat firm changed their website after I provided them with the facts. My posting here that you are quoting was from 5 years ago.

PeterCris: go to www.thompsondockside.com (http://www.thompsondockside.com) and check out the forum there. There are Grady-White owners that frequent the site. Also, there are some brochures in the Classic Library section of www.fiberglassics.com (http://www.fiberglassics.com)
Read forums such as this one. Read books on boat restoration. Plenty are available thru WoodenBoat store. Don Danenberg has a great book "Runabout Restoration".

I dragged my 1959 PennYan home from Vermont, also. Spent a year rebuilding it, but not to the awesome level that you've gone to. Great work. Give me a shout if you need help at the launching!
