View Full Version : Modern Caulk

I need to buy a tube of paintable caulk for my stitch and tape boat. I need it to finish off some edges, like along the butt blocks. I would like to leave a softer transition between panels. As this is a sectional boat, I have additional edges along the bulkheads.

I have heard of some PL products but have heard mixed comments about how they smooth out. Any recommendations?

Could I just mix up some epoxy with microballons and apply it like a fillet?

None of the caulked edges needs to be structural or keep out water.

Epoxy and microballoons makes an excellent fillet. I like to mix in just a little bit of colloidal silica. It seems to handle better. Mix in the microballoons first.

None of the PL products that I've worked with were sandable, only the concrete (non-leveling!!) caulk was paintable, but others may take it fine.

As above, most builders make fillets from thickened epoxy.

I'd say forget the PL for that application. It's a glue, not a filler. It doesn't really bond to the substrate unless pressure is applied. Use epoxy and balloons. It will smooth out and sand easily.
