Round here it's quite common to have light skiffs with a 15 or 20 or so hp outboard and an auxiliary electric trolling motor to go large-mouth bass fishing....lately I've seen the electric o-b mounted on the prow instead of the transom....as it happens I have a transom mounted ladder on one side and no place to mount the electric motor on the other..... so is this front-mount the way to go???
Any opinions ???

Most of the fishing boys that use a troller, mount on the front to get away from the clutter at the transom. Not a snide remark..just the way it is. The fishing is easier away from the outboard motor, makes sense to put the troller on the pointy end....pulls the boat along, fishing guy is happy sitting on the bow with plenty of room all around.
Depending on the boat, you could probably mount it anywhere along the gunnel. It is about the controls and how well your boat would respond to being pushed/pulled from amidships....

As above, if the boat has room on the foredeck for standing and fishing, and that's where you want to stand while operating the trolling motor, sure.
