We have been building the rudder for Janetess, my 32' Smaalders' designed Kahuna. Following the plans as closely as possible, we stack laminated douglas fir strips for most of the rudder, and then fitted and attached a trim tab of marine plywood. We vacuum bagged 2 layers of spanish cedar veneer to each side after planning and fairing. We faired the rudder again, and test fit to the transom.
We are now working on patterns for the gudgeons and pintels.
