Does anybody have information about Hai boats in the US?

Hai, Shark in Finnish, is a one-design keelboat quite popular in Finland.

I found an interesting piece of information in a book saying that among other lots ten of these boats were sold and delivered to Camden, Maine in the thirties.

I wonder if any of these have survived.

The Requin or Shark looks very much like a Dragon. My father had a 6 meter we think was designed by Gunnar Stenbeck (designer of the Hai). He drew very pretty boats in the 20's and 30's but isn't well known.
I am amazed at the number of keelboat classes in Maine that have come and gone. Looking at older photographs, you can spot almost every variant of long ended, skinny keelboat class imaginable. A feast for the eyes. It wouldn't surprise me if Maine residents had ordered a number of these pretty boats.

Camden had an active class of Haj boats until the early seventies. Thy sailed under the 'winter rig' (smaller jib) and were very wet.
There are several still around in various conditions but they haven't been raced since then.

The Apprenticeshop is restoring one: http://www.atlanticchallenge.com/boats/donated.shtm

A person who works, or used to work, at Redfern Boat in Lamoine, Me. has one. I can't recall his name, but he raced in the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta some years ago. The boat did quite well in light air. Try 207-266-0270 or sales@redfernboat.com.

They're great boats. Whichever hurricane it was in the early '50s wiped out many in the Camden fleet, and they were replaced by newer-built ones.

It's too bad the locals let them die out.
