I'm waiting for the following book to arrive. After I know more, we'll all know more. In the meantime, the following is a brief synopsis of what I found on the Orillia Museum website.
Title: The Story of Hunter Boats
Author: Donald A. Hunter
Price: $6.00
Ditchburn Boats Ltd. Of Gravenhurst, Ontario built two large boat-building plants in Orillia’s lakefront near the Royal Canadian Legion, in the years 1924 and 1926. They operated in this location from 1924 to 1931. The original company, which built small pleasure craft for Muskoka Lakes summer residents, began at Helmsley, now Rosseau, in Ontario 1875.
After receiving the book (40 page booklet), I've discovered that Hunter in Orillia, Ontario went out of business in 1976 and did not move to CA as I suspected. Hunter in CA was the 4th largest builder of cabin cruisers in 1938, but is also out of business.
I've not been able to find any additional info on Hunter in Suisun, CA. Any leads would be greatly appreciated
