View Full Version : Undo screws for copper rose heads

One of the many previous owners of my 30 year old 17 ft Norwegian lapstrake replaced some of the copper rose head rivets with screws in the hull. I'm wanting to put replace these screws with copper rose head rivets. My guess is that I would take the scews out (I believe they are stainless, phillips, number 8s), find rivets the next size bigger than then screw (from jamestown), and put that in the hole where the screws were. Am I on the right track here.

Sounds like the proper thing to do IMO.

I'm with Ken. I was sorta dreading the process of riveting on the lapstrake canoe I built but when it came time to do it I realy enjoyed it. Lotsa fun.

If the screw holes are bigger than the diameter of the existing rivets I might be inclined to plug the screw holes and then drill a smaller hole in the same place, rather than going to larger rivets. That way the new rivets would match the old ones rather than standing out as being bigger...
