Christened my 16 ft. Swampscott dory today with a bottle of Bass Ale and launched her in wind and whitecaps. Weather conditions notwithstanding she did great. I got her out of the shed and onto the water. I definitely need some pointers on rowing into wind, but it was fun. Thanks to all who answered my questions and encouraged me. The whole project took longer than planned, but came out better than I had expected. I still need to make a mast and sail, figure out the rig etc. For now it's nice to know that the Tringa looks good on the water and rows well.
Still can't figure out how to post pics -- any tips?
Doug

Sound like an excellent day...congratulations!!

I found this advice on posting pictures from Concordia41, the images do not show on the instructions but it should work for you fine:

A. Master either scanning photos or using a digital camera with your computer.

B. Set up an account with www.photopoint.com. (http://www.photopoint.com.) Master that (no small task).

C. When you have your pictures up loaded to Photopoint and in an album, under the picture it will say something like "edit - link - delete" if you click on link, it will give you a little pop up box with the URL address to your picture. Copy that information in its entirety by blocking it from start to finish and hitting "Control + c" (minimize that box in case it doesn't work - nah - that never happens)

D. In your post type then insert the URL you copied from photopoint without any spaces before or after and then close with

For instance ;lkjdjpoifpijzdonng

E. Hold your mouth just right, say your prayers, etc. and your picture should appear in your post. If it doesn't, don't panic. If you get nothing at all, try hitting refresh or getting off line and back on. If you get the DREDDED RED X something is wrong in your --- and it's trying but not getting to the exact right spot in the e-universe.

Hint: If you have to keep going back in and editing your post, when you're editing, edit out the last reference to editing and it won't show when it takes you a half dozen tries - nah - that never happens...

Happy posting!

Photopoint doesn't work anymore. Try this:

http://www.imagestation.com

Go there, open an account (free)

Decide whether you want to bring the pics into an album, or just into your storage bin.

Follow ImageStation's instructions for uploading the pics.

After the pics are uploaded, click on one of the thumbnails to pop-up the full sized pic.

Right click on the full sized pic, and select "properties"

In the middle of the properties box is the pic's URL.

MAKE SURE THE URL DOESN'T END WITH ".orig.jpg"
If it does, don't highlight that part.

Highlight the URL with your mouse (left key-drag)

On your keyboard, hit CTRL-C

Start a post on the WB forum.

Under the text entry screen, are 2 columns of buttons.

Click the "Image" button.

A little image box comes up with http:// already highlighted.

DON'T SELECT THE IMAGE BOX WITH YOUR CURSOR, OR YOU'LL END UP WITH 2 HTTP://'s

On your keyboard, hit CTRL-V..then press enter.

Preview the pic with the "Preview" button.

Post it!

Unfortunately, those are really old instructions. So old, I'd forgotten they were out there. Photopoint collasped into some cyber black hole a while back. There are several photo hosting services out there, but Imagestation is the most common used here. (Go with them so if you have questions, there will be lots of folks that can help).

Doug,
Do you have a trailer? Want to come down to Orleans sometime this winter? We row most weekends, and are always looking for kindred spirits. We went to Ian's neck of the woods last Dec. Lots of fun. We do usually have a row in Wellfleet soometime in the Fall but no dates so far.

Congrats on the launch, Enjoy!

Congrats, Doug!! I'm so glad to hear that you're on the water at last!

My attempt at the same design is waiting for some attention just now. I believe I'll be back at it in November and hope to join you on the water come spring. You're right, though, it takes a lot longer than expected!.... Happy rowing, and stay in touch about what you do with the sailing rig.

Cheers,
Jeff

Jeff, it's a great design, well worth the wait and blood, sweat and tears. Have the winter to work out the rig. Stay in touch.

Ian, I took you suggestion and widened the centerboard trunk cap and eliminated the B thwart. Great idea! much better set up. Thanks.

We rowed out to Long Point today, what a blast.
