I'm ready to finish the interior, after removing all the mildew that has grown on the plywood. Which is the difference between fungi and mildew, is not the same? Is mildew dangerous for the wood after humidity is away?
Thanks.

Lovely boat, Manel.

Mildew and mold are fungi.

Mold is the common term used to describe a downy or furry growth on the surface or organic matter, caused by fungi, especially in the presence of dampness and decay. A fungus (pl. fungi) may be any of a large number of microorganisms that are parasites feeding on living organisms or dead organic matter.

Mold is often used interchangeably with the word mildew. They are the generic terms that describe a variety of microorganisms, including fungi, algae, rusts, yeasts, and bacteria, that are agents of deterioration for museum objects. They produce irregular stains that can permanently damage an object. Collection managers must be able to recognize signs of these problems and be prepared to take preventive actions.

Really nice boat!! Great work.

As far as mold or mildew being dangerous, it's relative. Aside from making bad stains on things like donnwest explains, a lot of people are allergic to it. I am one of those and have terrible sneezing spells if there is a lot around. I usually try to keep everything dry and have air flow in the boat to prevent it.

Keep up the good work,
Louis

:D While you are translating donn's answer, the simple answer is "no, mildew is not dangerous to wood after the moisture is gone."

Mildew will die without the moisture.

You do nice work. Come do my boat when yours is done!

That's beautiful work. I'm going to ask the obvious, what are you working on? I think I know but I'm having trouble dragging it out of my memory.

Manel!
just want to cheer you to go along. Remember your thread some 6 months ago. Penobscot 17. Currently
building myself a Stitch&Glue Sabotina 8' sail version. Think it's a lot of work. Can imagine
doing the lapstrake is somewhat more complex and
tedious.
Keep up the good work and let your wife name the
boat when it's finished!
