1954 Chris DCFB.

The foredeck on my Chris is beyond repair. the wood is warped, split, covered in holes and nails, and soft in some places.

I'm thinking of tearing the whole thing out, replacing the marine ply underneath with something thicker, and bedding mahogany strips in epoxy on top of that. Can someone recommend a system? 9k a new teak deck makes me want to cry.

Also, I hate screws. 1100 screws is my conservative estimate for whats in the deck right now. I can handle screwing down the ply, but drilling, sinking, and bunging 1100 screws sounds like a circle of hell I'd like to avoid until after death.

Your experience and time is greatly appreciated.

It's not that bad...the screws that is. Typically doing the fits take longer than fastening. I do classic speedboats professionally; each one has a few thousand screws. No big deal.

What pcford said,"It's not that bad." In fact, it is alot like hand sanding, best not to think too far ahead at what you have to do but instead just do and do it until it is done. Sorta like a big jigsaw puzzle.

Cheers!
