Also, the web site says "Pending Lloyds certification" What exactly does that mean?

Boy is this an open question. What type of boat? How are you going to finish it? I would assume that lloyds has not finished testing the company who makes the ply or something of that nature. Meranti is a fairly soft wood, I believe a little softer than okume,I believe. The samlpe shown is a lot nicer than the whole sheets I have seen. If you are going to cover with fiberglass and epoxy it is fine. Remember that the meranti face is very thin, 1/64 or less. A small dent ding or gash and it cannot be repaired if bright.
If painted it shouldnt be a problem.

Dave, I have used both the plywood and meranti planking as flooring for open cockpit type boats.
It works fine but the end grain of the plywood needs lots and lots of paint or varnish to keep the "oggin" out.
Its used in large quantities by window and door manufacturers here in the UK which in itself should testify to its durability.
Shuggie.

Not that expensive and it looks great. Well....OK....not as nice as the ribbon stripe but alot cheaper.
