Okay, it's not boat related, but people here will have experience with awnings.
I am covering a small balcony at my house with a piece of canvas. Two sides will be attached to the fascia on the house. I am going to build a framework for the other two sides. The ends of the framework will be attached to the house and the two pieces will be joined and supported by an upright.
Is is better to lace the canvas to the frame members or build a framework larger than the perimeter of the canvas? In the latter scenario, I would lace the canvas to the framework with a few inches of space between the edge of the canvas and the frame. The canvas would be suspended by the laces and not touch the frame work.
