Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you fine fellows know of any wooden boat schools or apprentice type programs in Norway? I've scoured the web and couldn't find any info in English, and my Norwegian is not (yet) good enough to do any scouring in that language.
Thanks!

The only school that I am aware of that offers an education in wooden boat building today is 'Saltdal Videregående Skole', in the county of Nordland in northern Norway. There used to be a school in Jondal in the Hardanger FJord area, a few hours drive from Bergen, but this school was closed in 2003/04 AFAIK.
Saltdal Videregående is a vocational school, and the boat builder education is a standard four year program.
First year is a general 'Design, arts and crafts' year. In the second year you start your specialization in boat building. Third and fourth year is a combination of apprenticeship and classroom training.
You may find more info about this particular program here (http://vilbli.no/4daction/WA_Kompetanse/?ASP=3898562&Ran=4973&Niva=V&Return=WA_Artikkel&Lan=3&Artikkel=009136&TP=28-07-09&Kompetanse=V.DH3039&Expand=0)
There is also the option of applying directly for an apprenticeship with a boat builder. I believe this requires at least two years of formal and relevant technical training.
I'd be happy to do further inquiries on your behalf, but it would be better to wait a month or so when school staff will have returned from their vacation and settled in. Pls feel free to PM me.

Last year at Port Townsend, I met a boatbuilder from Norway, Curtiss Anderson. He taught at a CWB-like organization here ... http://www.engoyholmen.no (http://www.engoyholmen.no/). Nice guy.
I have his card. It's in Norwegian. For some reason, I really like the card.
